hi, this campsite has a lot of potential, great area, lovely helpful lady on reception. But there are some downsides to this site. First when you drive down the main thoroughfare to your pitch you can feel as though you are in a travellers site, as old and new caravans are stored next to pitches. Those with seasonal pitches have grass and weeds growing high around their vans. Toilets are closed at 10pm, its ok for us with vans but as for those with tents it can be quite annoying.Main gates are closed at 10pm too. Finally be careful of the warden...his manner with peoples children can leave a lot to be desired, he looks as though he just doesnt want to be there, but remember his wife is a lovely lady better to talk to her on reception if you have any problems

Mr. Moos Caravan site
Great central location for visits to Scarborough, Bridlington etc... and only 40 minutes from York and Flamingo Land. I have now stayed here 2 years running and would recommend it to anyone especially families as there is a large flat enclosed field for the kids to play in safely. The ice cream parlour is excellent with friendly staff and great tasting ice cream of many wonderful flavours, they also do light lunches at resonable prices. I have found the easiest route is via the A 165 onto the B 1249 through Beeford and onto Skipsea. The only thing i think is missing is maybe a shower block, but for £9.75 (2010 prices) per night with hook up you can't go wrong. I will be visiting for many years to come.

Hollands Wood
To be honest camping was not our first holiday choice and if it hadn't been for the fact that our 4 year old son thought it would be a great idea we probably wouldn't have gone. It also didn't help that we were camping virgins so we left home kind of expecting the worst.
We were greeted at the entrance by friendly staff who explained that we could pitch where we liked so long as it was within the site boundaries.
We found an open pitch, setup the tent and did our cursory walk around the site (minding the cow and horse manure which our son thought was hilarious). We checked out the kitchen, laundry and shower/toilet blocks which were well stocked and clean and breathed a sigh of relief.
We did realise however that we had pitched too close to the main road and could hear the traffic despite being more than 300 yards away. (Never mind, lesson learned!). Our son loved the whole camping experience and slept better than he normally does at home so wasn’t affected.
We had a fantastic 6 days on site and were thinking of asking if there was an opportunity to stay longer but on the final night we returned late from a day out to find that several large tents had pitched together into a large huddle approx 4 feet from ours (there is a limit of 6 meters) and we had to endure screaming children (and adults) til at least midnight. Shortly after that we were woken by an argument (again between adults) which lasted at least another hour.
Our camping extension idea came to an abrupt halt that evening and we left the next morning with mixed feelings about our stay.
It was a shame that the campsite patrol team didn't notice either how close the group had pitched next to our tent or how disrespectful they were to other campers by making so much noise.
Our overall experience was fantastic and have taken away a few tips for making our next stay a better one - we will simply take more care in our pitch choice (and set a 6 meter land mine perimeter of course) or choose a site where large groups are not permitted.
We are already looking at a better quality tent and look forward to planning our next excursion.

Owner Needs to Learn Customer Service Skills
To cut a long story short we had a pitch booked to arrive at the site 10AM however due to a slight delay in leaving and unexpected traffic on out trip (Quite a long 3 hour trip) we where a couple of hours late. Upon arrival the owner met us and told us he had been trying to contact us since 11am. I told him that I had not received any calls however my phone had been on a car mount for the whole trip and maybe I had a bad signal.
At this point the owner became very aggressive and accused me of calling him a lier. To which I replied that I was not calling him a lier but just that my phone had not rung.
It transpires that he had already given our pitch away although it was still only 1pm in the afternoon. When I asked him if he had any additional pitches he aggressively told me he did not and it was my own fault. He continued to raise his voice at me at which point I got in my car and drove off to try and find somewhere else.
All in all I'm sure the camp site is very nice but the owner has some serious customer customer service issues that he needs to address with himself.
For this reason I can not recommend this camp site to anyone as if you are a bit late there is every chance that you will be talked to very badly by the owner and have nowhere to stay when you arrive.

Highburn House
Myself and family pre- booked three tents to stay for a weekend camping at Highburn House. We found on arrival that the owners of the site were very obnoxious, rude, abrupt and un-accommodating. We arrived at the site at 9.45pm after a 70 mile drive with a five week old baby and a 3 year old child. Our family consisted of seven adults, two babies and one dog. The owner of the site ran out of her house waving her arms and shouting we don’t accommodate groups on the site. We explained to the lady that we were not a group we are a family and had pre- booked during that week and had given details of gender, ages of family members etc to her husband who had taken the booking. She began screaming at us and accusing us of being liars and said that they would never book three tents onto their site as they don’t have space for that many tents. We politely told the lady that we had travelled quite a long way and had a five week old baby with us, this did not bother her and she told us that she had had problems with people like us before and that we could not stay on her site. We asked her what she meant by ‘people like you’ and asked how she could judge our family before she had even spoken to us. We are a decent, hardworking and responsible family having a weekend break. We had politely tried to reach a solution with the owner to resolve the problem, the owner’s husband sat in the living room watching out of the window. The lady threatened to call the police, which I still don’t understand as we had not and were not causing any trouble, all we wanted was to pitch our tents and have a sleep before exploring the area the following day. The site is advertised to be family friendly with relaxing surroundings. Our family did not find our experience of this particular campsite or the owners to be welcoming or friendly and would certainly not recommend it to anyone.
We found a site called Riverside Holiday Park a little further down the road and explained to the staff what had happened at Highburn House and the staff there bent over backwards to accommodate our family for the weekend and we all had a lovely time.

A vary tidy campsite
A spotless site that the owners obviously take great pride in, the pitches are all level grass and clearly marked out, the owners are very particular as to how you pitch up so make sure you go see them first if at all possible.
The caravan park is quiet and while not an adult only site there isn't much for children to do and I felt the site was probably more suited to adults. There are a few seasonal pitches and a few spaces for tents with the majority of the tourers in the central area.
All the facilities are close at hand and again very, very well maintained.
The campsite is close to a local pub, probably about a 10-15 min walk and Woodbrige is a short drive away. We didn't have much time to get out and explore but certainly will next time.
A good find and I would recommend it without doubt

Disgruntled
Myself and a few friends (mixed group) went to Highburn House for a weekends camping, this was not the first time we have gone here but it will certainly be the last.
We found that the owners of the site were very rude, abrupt and unfair to us. This would have been the 4th time we had visited this site and each time we were in a mixed group of around 12 people. When we arrived, we were never asked if we were part of a group or meeting others there, yet this was the reason the owner gave as a reason to evict us from the site! The owner claimed that they dont accomadate groups of more than two tents on the site. This was basically a lie as there was a group of around 20 people on one side of the site. We got the impression from the owner that we were being thrown off the site as we are in our mid-20's. We had pitched our tents around 1pm and went into Wooler to watch the World Cup on TV yet returned at around 5pm to find that the owner had phoned the police as we were not off the site in 15mins! We politely advised the lady that we could not leave the site as we had had a drink and were unable to drive. This did not bother her and she told the police to get us off the site.
The police were very good, they showed understanding and helped us try and find a solution. The police eventually persuaded the owner that the ones who had had a drink could leave their cars over night.
We had politely tried to reach a solution with the owner to resolve the problem, the owners husband originally said we could stay providing we booked in furture! We offered to move our tents to the other side of the field so we were out the way of other campers (who incidentally had no complaints towards us and were just as shocked and annoyed at the owner for making us move) but it looked as though she had an agenda towards younger people as she was very rude, devious and underhand in trying to have us removed from the site. She even resorted to lying to the police to back up her claims. Something which we alerted the police to. Unfortunately however the police were powerless as it was private property.
I could understand the owners request to have us off the site if we were being loud and were annoying other campers, however we pitched our tents, we conversed with other campers on the site and had a very good relationship with them. They were very very suprised that we had been told to leave. One couple said they would never go back to Highburn House again!
I feel that we were treated very unfairly and we thrown off the site for the simple reason we were 'younger'. The owner claimed we had never been to the site before, however we had been every year for the last 4 years and even had pictures on facebook!
I will never return to Highburn House again, in future myself and my friends will go to Riverside Holiday Park on the other side of Wooler. We were able to find space at Riverside and the staff were very understanding and accomodating and had no issue with us being in a group as long as we were respectful of others in the site, which I believe is very reasonable and something myself and my friends are very wary of whenever we have been away.
To close I would never recommend Highburn House to any of my family, friends or work colleagues.
